Third Truro Beavers

Fun and friendship are the cornerstones of the Beaver program.  Through an adventurous program of outdoor activities, creative play, songs, and cooperative games, Beavers enjoy time with their friends (and meet new ones), learn how to get along within a group, and develop the confidence to be themselves.

Beavers share many outdoor adventures with their friends in the colony.  Nature walks, short hikes, tree plantings and family sleepovers give Beavers a taste of outdoor fun.  Through these activities, Beavers develop an appreciation and a sense of caring for the environment.

Beavers are a vital part of the community, country and world in which they live.  Visits to parks, power plants, fire and police stations thrill young Beavers and illustrate the many important facets of their community.

St. Andrews United Church is a peanut free building with  a number of scouters having peanut allergies.

Noticeses

  • Beavers will only be released when a parent or guardian has arrived.
  • New Beavers are keen to get their uniforms. Several suggestions are: ask friends and neighbours as many children have been in the Beaver Program in the past; check www.kijiji.ca for sale items or post a want ad; visit the shop located in Westville (address on the main page) ; or order online through www.scouts.ca.
  • The Beaver colony meets every Wednesday from 6:00 to 7:00 with the only exceptions being when an Area Event is planned during the week or the schools are closed due to bad weather.
  • Dues are collected at every meeting (50 cents). Dues go towards perishable goods, craft supplies, cost of activities etc.
  • Parents may want to consider campfire blankets for their Beavers. While not mandatory by any means, the Beavers do cherish them and they can sew or pin all of their crests, badges, pins etc from all their activities on them (swimming, skiing etc). Before the New Year we are planning a couple of "indoor campfires" followed by an actual one in Malagash. If interested, check the National Scout Site Store or, if you are sew inclined, make one. Tip: Make sure the blanket is long enough in the back to sit on.
  • Please encourage your Beaver to wear their complete uniform to all events.
