Campfire Blankets and Campfire Magic

fire
Blankets come in all shapes and sizes. Any design is a good design. Usually poncho style ( most popular ) or worn like a jacket.
Use your imagination.
They can be easily made or purchased through the local Scout Shop. They are a great place to display the badges and Crests you have collected or traded over the years.
-----------------------------

These blankets serve several purposes

(1) Warmth. The fire may be warm but ground and seating can get quite damp and chilly. This IS Nova Scotia.

(2) A place to display a history of your Scouting years. Most events or camps the kids go to they receive a crest or a pin. I have seen some Scouters add their Beaver tails when they have swam up from Beavers or Badges from Cubs when they have gone up to Scouts etc... You can also display some neat crest trades with other Scouters.

(3) Can help serve as props for skits.

Some guidelines to keep the Campfire's Magical Atmosphere.

1. Enter and leave the campfire quietly, in a group. It is very disrupting to the program if someone arrives late. not only to the Campfire Chief but to every one else too. If you are late and arrive after the start, quietly slip into the back of the group and try not to disturb anyone.

2. When entering ensure that your flashlight is turned "OFF" and don't use it until after you leave the campfire. If you need to use your flashlight for the purpose of a song or Scouter's five, TRY TO MEMORIZE IT. I t's proper etiquette to ask the Campfire chiefs permission before using your flashlight

3. NO food, candy, or drink. This one is pretty obvious, We usually have a "Mug Up: afterwards.

4. When someone is leading a song, sing the version that the leader is singing. The words to songs change from person to person over time, chances are that you might even like the song leaders version better than the one you have been singing for years. Besides it is rude to stop the song to attempt to correct the song leader.

5. NO SMOKING This isn't about health and the dangers of second hand smoke. But the light and smoke from a cigarette does distract the people around, and can be a hazzard with the blankets.

6. No Clapping Clapping is in bad taste during a campfire, applause (good or bad) is given by cheers only.

7. Never put wood on the fire after it is lit. This is rather important, because the fire is the center piece of the whole gathering we do not want to interrupt anyone's concentration. By throwing a log on the fire you will cause a large disturbance with the noise and the sparks that fly afterward. If for some unlikely reason you need to add more wood, (This never happens, Ya Right), we ask everyone to face outwards from the fire in order to keep some of the Campfire magic alive.

*Wait until everybody has left the fire area before putting the fire out.*
*Have a Great Time*
